Recycling

Here at Walter’s Auto Specialties battery recycling is an important part of what we do every day. Just last year we recycled over 3 million pounds of lead acid batteries.

The Process
We sort and prepare the spent batteries for shipment to various battery smelters throughout the United States. Once the batteries arrive at the smelter they are broken down and separated into three different components: lead, plastic, acid. Once separated, each component is recycled to form new batteries or various other products.

Why is battery recycling important?
Since batteries contain heavy metals and corrosive electrolyte solutions they can be considered hazardous waste once they are discarded. It is because of this fact that it is important to make sure that all batteries are disposed of properly in an effort to keep hazardous waste out of landfills and our water supply.
